Congratulations on getting a Cattleya. I think these plants are the showiest of all the orchids and most of them have a pleasant fragrance. Most of these plants get large. Mine also bloom in the Winter into early Spring--if you give them warmth, humid fresh air, and a lot of bright light and nutritious water.

Cattleyas always bloom from the new pseudo-bulbs and each one will only bloom once. The time of year it blooms will depend on the species in the ancestry of the plant. Many cattleyas are fall or winter bloomers and the bloom on fully mature pseudo-bulbs that they grew during the spring and summer. There are some summer blooming cattleyas that bloom on brand new pseudo-bulbs, sometimes before the pseudo-bulb is even fully grown out. Keep a mental note of when it blooms because it will bloom close to the same time every year.
