BC Edna 'Summit'
One of the NJOS members used to work for Lager & Hurrel in Summit. From time to time he brings in plants from that establishment, which unfortunately has been long gone.
Since Sophronitis coccinea has been transferred to Cattleya, this is now BC Edna (B. nodosa x C. coccinea). Since this plant is a vigorous grower, he has sold off divisions to several of our members.

BC Edna 'Summit'
When I posted the first photo a few months ago, it was a plant flowered under lights (in a cave!), and photographed under indoor lighting.
I have now bloomed my own division in the greenhouse, and the color is dramatically improved. Here are both photos.

Wow, really interesting. Not only is the colour different but the shape of the lip. It's more trumpet like in the second one, rather than open in the first. I wouldn't realise it was the same plant unless you said.

It's marvelous. What a difference. Love the pattern on the lip.

Both light level and temperature have significant impact on flower quality. My division is still small; I hope for even better results on future bloomings.
