Very interesting cross. I wonder why I haven't heard of it before. I would think it would be every bit as successful as Bc. Richard Mueller. I really like the like the third pic.

I saw seedlings of this cross listed on Ebay some 8-10 years ago. These photos are of a good clone (L&H only used 'Summit' for their best plants).

I think it is worth redoing, but I grow neither nodosa nor coccinea. If anyone makes it, I would like to buy 25+ seedlings when NBS.

Default Bc. Edna 'Summit' - Photo Update

Re-surrecting this thread.

The plant from which I took the original photo obviously died in the freeze I suffered in Dec 2017. However, I re-acquired it from Albert (the 'Cave Man'). My new plant has grown fairly large, so I was able to take a photo showing (left to right):
  • Fresh (near red)
  • Mature (orange)
  • Old/near fading (yellow)
flowers at the same time.

Wow. I am so glad to see this thread. What a lovely cross. I wonder why it is not around more.

That is past lovely, Kim. And in my favorite colors for blooms. But it's looking rather crowded in that pot. Pretty sure you should divide it, and I'll take whatever falls off during the move.

Very nice shapes and firey colours. Yes !!!!! It 'must' be divided. Kim can take whatever falls off during the dividing process hehehehe

It's excellent in that the orchid was able to be re-acquired. Nice work Cave Man! And nice work Kim for finding it again.

@ DirtyCoconuts:
This is an old cross, registed in 1962. I think it was remade around 2000-2005, but they are obviously sold out now.

I have toyed with the idea of having it meristem propagated, but under current conditions (all shows cancelled, likely through spring/summer 2021), I am reluctant to pour $ into mass propagation.

@ all:
However, I actually had two mature plants, and recently divided one of them. I have been selling these mother divisions locally for $60 (+ shipping, $10 via USPS Priority).
I still have two BS divisions available; to reserve one, send me a PM.
