That's the first time I've seen an alba of this species. Looks great!

I didn't grow the seeds, however it's probably only about 2 years out of the flask. It's a fairly precocious Encyclia.

It seems that the first flower turned out to be non-typical of this plant. Three additional spikes on this plant have since began blooming. This post's attachment shows the more typical flower which exhibits an unfurled, well-shaped lip in comparison to the first flower. This makes me happy.

I hadn't realized until I reread the first post that it was just one out of a batch of seedlings. So, as far as you knew, it wasn't the case that all the seedlings were supposed to be albas? Just an ordinary batch of seedlings? Quite fortunate, indeed. Thought I like the normal color form, I would like to have the alba form. Never seem to see the alba offered though.

It is the result of a selfing of an alba form. You get a higher chance of getting the alba form, but no guarantees. I believe "Rubin in Orchids" has more of this same batch of seedlings for sale right now if he hasn't sold them already. He might even have some in bloom, that way you would know if the alba came through on your plant. He has a store on Ebay, reasonably priced, good guy....check it out! Good luck!
