Default Buds on FCC/AOS Awarded Cattleya

I purchased this 3 pseudobulb cutting of vintage C. skinneri 'Heiti Jacobs'. It was kind of beat up looking and had one root barely starting to emerge from one pseudobulb. I went ahead and potted it up as soon as I got it. Normally, I would have waited for that root to mature a little more before putting it into media. To my surprise, only one month later this baby is budding out. I was thinking it would be next year before this would have a chance of flowering. Guess I was wrong! Again!

Added 2 more pics here. One showing the award winning flower after blooming. I think it could have been better if this were not a newly divided plant which is not even established in its media yet. Still the flower itself is quite stunning. The last picture shows one of the dangers of growing outside. I had placed the little guy away from the bench it normally sits on to give the flowering bud a little extra light to get them to fully open. As you can see an oak limb fell from the tree over night and only inches away from crushing the orchid. Ouch!

Very nice. I love it when buds appear. It takes a long time to finally bloom but the wait is cool. This pbulb was ready to bloom when you got it but this bloom will take a lot of energy so I doubt it will bloom next season. So after the flowers fade and the new growth takes off, give it everything it needs so that the following season you can get more flowers.
