Default Laelia purpurata var. flamea (dark)

Beautiful satiny petals that I could not capture in photo. Sometimes people call this as variety sanguinea because of the dark color, but this is not proper. Variety sanguinea is entirely dark with almost no white.

Dazzling. I am running out of adjectives to describe your orchids. Very nice flowers!

The lip seems to be a precious garnet born from a smoldering fire. Mauro, this one left me almost breathless.

Wow, Ive never seen those vivid colors on a purpurata. Looks great!! However, the lip looks very "tenebrosa-ish". Is that just a coincidence (because purpuratas and tenebrosas are fairly closely related, thus making some form overlap entirely likely) or do you think that there might be some tenebrosa incorporated into the genes at some point? Im always looking at what crosses make what (for my future breeding program!), so thats why Im asking! Thanks.

Just coincidence, Steve. There are no tenebrosa genes in this variety. Excessive hot days this year made the flowers fold petals, lips... For a better assessment of this flower quality (shape and color) take a look at a picture taken last year. The color looks washed because it was taken with frontal flash.

I see. The difference between this year and last year's flower is very apparent. I didnt know that temperature differences could have that type of effect. Thanks again for an interesting answer to another one of my questions!!
