Red leaves in Laeliinae is never anything to be worried about. In fact, it actually means your light levels are just right.

Thank you for the info! The newest leave is less purple; we'll see if it flowers next year again. These thin-leaved rupics seem to be much easier to flower.

Update after 2 years about this Cattleya (Laelia, Hoffmannseggella) mirandae. A bit more info in the Link to my blog post about this species.

Dorsal sepal length=2.8cm, Dorsal sepal width=0.6cm, Ovary length=4.0cm

It is kind of getting too big: Largest Pseudobulb length=19cm, Largest leaf length=19.7cm, inflorescence length=83.8cm.

I love the Laelia's with their long spikes. I imagine them blowing in the wind in the wild. Great color.
