That's a good question. Chances are they're going back to the grower. But, you might just ask them what is happening with them.

A lot of places return the unsold ones to the suppliers

The Lowes that I go to has a sales rack of plants that have already bloomed or have been somewhat neglected. If the price is right, these might be good plants to enlarge your collection.

I don't know if all Lowes are the same but at the store close to me, a vendor comes in every few weeks and removes the plants that don't look great and replaces them with blooming plants. I don't know what the vendor does with the old plants but I doubt if they throw them out. Ask the Lowes employee at the garden section. Maybe they can tell you.

I think it is more likr months. One of my catts, the healthiest ever bought before Christmas, is from the same shipment as my most recent purchase , bought jan 20, the most dessicated of the bunch. I am thrilled, because healthy or sad, gosh they put out! I am now areal fan of Catts, though one of
Mine have ever bloomed yet.

I meant not one has bloomed. Still think they are
too young.

You would be surprised.
Orchids can sit in my Lowe's for months. Just there.
And one day they are gone like that.
I watched a batch that had been there for months get sold in about 10 minutes. One after another people streamed in and bought one.

The Lowe's near me has a guy come once every week.
He evaluates the orchids and adds new stock.
Anything that isn't in bloom or is on the way out is pulled and switched with new ones. The ones he doesn't feel are worth saving are sent to the clearance rack.
Apparently most cattleyas are easy to save much to my dismay.

Also Valentine's day is coming up and alot of places are beefing up their flower stock.
Orchids are the most popular live flower in my area so holidays for loved ones are a great time for orchid shopping.
So they might be preparing for that.
The stores near me are certainly aware of how long their flowers last.

I visit 3-4 lowes a week looking for good cat. Buys. I have found each store is different some have a discount rack and some don't. I always ask for a discount and some offer 50 percent off the baggies. Last week I found 5 of their larger baggies on a clearance rack at $5.00 ea. I gathered up all 5 and asked for more discount and they dropped to $3.00. One was in bud!!!
