Default Laelia lobata concolor

This is a selfing of the famous and awarded clone 'Geni' (known as 'Jenny' in the northern hemisphere). It doesn't have a good shape, but preserves de color.

Yes Steve,
This spring is full of orchids! Not only catts and Laelias, but Bifrenarias too! And the summer is comming, with my beloved Stanhopeas flowers!

I remember an old story about L. lobata where they described the habitat near the ocean. As I recall, they mentioned that it bloomed much more easily when the growth is over the edge of the pot. I noticed that this one is over the pot.....any truth to that story?

You are absolutely right! L lobata came from a few rocky hills in Rio de Janeiro city (Pedra da Gávea, Pão de Açúcar - Sugar Loaf, and one other I can't remember). During the days lithophytic lobata lives almost under direct sun, but at nights the temp drops a lot ("a lot" in terms of brazilian temps!) and there is fog, humidity and sea breeze. Some people put a few drops of iodine in the water and sprays lobatas, to copy the sea iodine (I never did that!). In cultivation lobatas love 'free' roots, and grow better without any media at all!
