Cattleya NOID first blooming with purple pseudobulb
This is a first blooming cattleya. I can see the shadow of two buds. One thing that really surprise me is how the pseudobulb is so purple. I suppose that is because the light amount is fine (even under shade cloth) and because the plant will have pink or lilac flowers. Am I right?
Regards from sunny Yucatan

Hello to Mexico. You are right. The plant is able to produce a lot of dyestuff / anthocyan, and so the flowers will be intensely coloured. Please post pictures when open.
Is your name a Maya word?

Yes, I have noticed too in other cattleyas, but in this pseudobulb each day is more intense and is so fat, bright and healthy that remind me an eggplant and I want to bite it
Thanks for your lines...

Ohhhhhh, I didn't know the mayan name. digbyana is my favourite orchid and it brought me to love orchids in general. I have 2 in my garden in Mexico (Q.Roo). Really happy reading about it's original name
Good luck with your Cattleya bloom!

HERE THE FLOWERS!!!! WOOOWWW, no yellow or white in the lip!!!
In the pic the flowers seem pink, but they are lilac!!! and the lip has a deeper color with a velvet texture. What a pity the pic doesn´t show the real color. You know this happens photographing certain colors... They start to open yesterday so I think It will be better in two days. Hope you like it!!! BTW the purple pseudobulb diminish its color. It seems that flowers say: heyyyy give us some purple!!! hehehehehe
This is a NOID, but can someone suggest what is it? I know is very difficult. Sometimes I think that is like a purple cattleya crossed with a Guarianthe or a Mexican Laelia, well... I don´t know... and sometimes I see a dowiana phantom on the lip... mmmm, I don´t know...
Happy to share it!!!
Regards!!!
Mario

Only a long-shot guess: Flowering season and a single leaved Cattleya with purple pigments makes me think of my Cattleya labiata forma rubra 'Schuller'.
Guarianthe crosses usually inherit bifoliate pbulbs.
But it is more likely a complex Blc.-hybrid.
Whatever it is, it is beautiful and has found a good home.
