Do you find her tricky to keep her going?

Black Barron, This species is quite easy to grow. My plants are whole summer in my garden hanging on tree. I fertilize them once or twice in a month. After the bulbs are mature i stop watering and move the plants to cool (+ 10-15 C) and light place ( december-february) no watering at all, that is important if you want your plant to bloom in spring or summer.

joule, see my plant (picture attached).
I bought her in 2007. She is doing well. But she is a somewhat reluctant bloomer.
I thought she may need a rest to induce flowers.
Now you gave me clues what (not) to do.
Thanks!

What an inspiring specimen plant. I've been intrigued by this species for awhile but won't dare try one. It's just too hot for too long here. I can really appreciate yours though. That's spectacular!

Well, to hot for too long?
See, what the plant experiences in her homeland, the Mexican Highlands...
She survives direct & hot sun & no rains.
Why?
Because of getting misted every night/morning.
You easily can give that to her by spraying.
Just try!

Good luck

I grow mine inside all year so it gets air conditioning in summer (which is most of the year!). Since its a pretty small plant, it doesn't take up much space!

You are right BB !

This species tolerate high temperature well, but you have to look after watering during hot days. I allways water my plants in the evening, timing is important.
Main thing when your plant is resting is a cool/cold place and a lot of light and no watering ...
