Pot. Susan Fender "Cinnamon Stick"

I bought this as a seedling from Bill and Susan Fender. It took 4 years to get to blooming size. This is the third year that it's bloomed. It has a strong spicy fragrance.

I bought this plant with two buds two years ago. I absolutely loved it and its strong fragrance.
It grew so well for me for almost two years after that but never flowered again. Not a single sheaths were produced which I thought was so strange.

I miss it. maybe I should have kept it but my window space is so valuable that I couldn't keep something that does not bloom for over two years.

How often does yours bloom?
Does it take more sun than other cattleyas you think??

I would love to get a division if and when you divide in the future.

Thanks for the compliments. It only blooms once a year in mid-summer. It's outdoors in South Florida so it does get strong light. I really don't know why yours didn't rebloom but some big cattleyas do require a lot of light. Some of the smaller cattleyas seem to do well in lower light.

I bought mine in bud in July. so summer blooming makes sense although it was advertised as year around bloomer that blooms on every new growth.

So strange that I have a large LC that blooms on my windowsill. I had a different LC, also large, that flowered. I now have a large flowering BLC that is sending up a sheath.

It was a mystery plant for me. lol

By the way, those three light spots on the leaf leftside of the picture, look like softbodied scale feeding sites.
Check the back of that leaf to see if there are anything sucking juice from the leaf.
It could be just nothing though.

Thanks Tucker. I'm trying to get rid of orchids and you go and show me this!!!! Thanks!!! Just what I need. Another reason to get another orchid I don't need. This is a beauty. Love the colors. And large cats need high light levels to bloom. The minis are bred to flower in lower light like window sills. Is this strongly fragrant or just so so?

The fragrance is pretty strong. It's a spicy fragrance.

I'll have to scour the dumpsters and trash bins and see if anyone has thrown one out. Or look around on the internet and see if there is one close by for sale (dang you Tucker).
