Brassavola lovers dont look - Orchid Board

I always wondered why I dont see many of the Bc types around. I love the flowers and the scent. Fact is the Brassavola shape dominates and you dont get many variations of it. I found allen blacks site of his pics of his own hybrids. I dont see many if any of these for sale. They are quite beautiful flowers all of them and just thought I would share with others who have the Bc/Blc bug

Thanks for sharing!! I love both of the Brassavola Yaki plants! Brassavola cucullata is one of my favorite plants! I love the way it grows and I think it's so cool even when it's not in bloom!

Aaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!! My eyes!!! My eyes!!!!! Can you imagine if there were some vivid reds in the group? The guy would be rich. These are stunning flowers for sure. Thanks for the info. (Now where's my optometrist?)

Sigh, I absolutely love Brassavola and hybrids with plenty of it in it, but there is something about the sympodial growth habit that I just can't deal with anymore, which is a reason I am sticking with Phalaenopsis. Thankfully I can admire these hybrids from afar!

oh my!! they were all wonderful, and it makes me despair of losing my greenhouse! I just love the brassavolas and their crosses!...ah, I will dream on, and again maybe someday have a spot for them...

Allen sells some things on eBay from time to time. If you email him he'd be happy to put you on his email list and then let you know when he has anything up for auction.

He has some absolutely stunning plants...some being his own crosses.

They grow well for me whatever I'm doing too them and that says a lot about any orchid...I cant see anyone really having too much trouble with the nodosa's if they grow them outside and water the mounted ones daily and maybe 2 or 3 times a day if needed. Lots of fresh air benefits them tremendously. Potted ones watered as they dry out. Just water them. They seem to like the #7 orchiata bark,medium charcoal chunks and medium DYna RoK mix I use for just about everything 'cept the phals. They love the heat and bright light when they get enough watering and fertilizer. Ive seen a few here with some wonderfully flowered Bc and Blc's. The Blc's Im afraid are too large a plant for me to grow comfortably right now limited to space. But the Bc's are smaller and bloom for you almost with every new bulb given the bright light. They are born with sheaths ready to spike...Halfway there

I have 2 nodosa's one mounted one potted, 1 Bc Yellow Bird potted. 1 Bc Little Stars potted. 1 Bc cordata potted, 1 Bc David Sanders potted and all are experiencing what I consider extreme growth with most of them having 5 or 6 new puppies all cept the david sander who only has 1. So yeah I love these plants and no doubt am going to expand my small collection when the heat wave has subsided. Its heartless and cruel to submit them into a near hellish atmosphere right now. As one said they even look cool not blooming.
