Beautiful, very nicely grown. I'm experimenting with this species outdoors along with dowiana. I thought dowiana would be the one most likely to suffer from the winter weather but it's doing fine, it's the gaskelliana that is suffering (although the worst is Brassavola nodosa).

Cattleya17 I also have the alba version and it just opened. It's a first time bloomer for me and I can't wait for it to grow up.

Outdoors what do you mean by suffering? What is it doing? If you water it with short new growths you can lose the growths.

I wish you luck with the dowiana - I had mine for 7 years and then it committed suicide.

The leaves developed black spots then some of them dropped off the pseudobulb. Gaskelliana lost its newest leaf and B. Nodosa lost all of its leaves. Dowiana surprisingly is looking perfectly fine which is odd as everything I've read say it's extremely cold sensitive.

They say cold and wet in winter is deadly to the dowiana but I lost mine to black rot in the middle of summer. Good luck with keeping it going.

Palm I didn't measure the blooms but it was bigger than I expected - particularly for a first time bloomer.

SHag my husband takes the pictures and it is his hobby.

Both are beautiful...I, also have had black rot on an Emerald Isle cattleya. Had to cut way beneath the rot, spray with alcohol, then treat cut with sulfur powder. Saved the plant, but lost new growth & buds it would have produced. BettyE
