Guarianthe Barbara Kirsch finally blooming after over a year. Flower count is low but it was living in waaaay sub-par conditions the last year and has just now started enjoying the new vivarium. Flowers are still very very nice. I plan to get that flower count up now that I am providing better light and care.
I have designs on introducing some standard cattleya blood here. C. dowiana perhaps. Or C. rex. We will see how my clones of those flower out.
i had to make a minor colour correction to get it right! It's showing it's breeding in colour, with the underlaying of orangey caratenoid from aurantiaca and the suffusion of anthocyanin from the bowringiana. The shape, of course, is mostly dominated by the aurantiaca, but given the carriage of those petals I bet that bowringiana was one of those grandiflora types.
It has 3 spikes with 3 flowers and one with one, now, but normally it blooms with 7-15 flowers per spike. It's just getting back in the groove since it was in poor conditions for a while. Too much light, not enough water all summer, then not enough light or water last winter. lol
