I bought a specimen and 2 flasks of selfing from it, from Rueben Sauleda (Rubin In Orchids) and just deflasked today. I have 3 nice full compots.

The plant itself was pulled out of the pot, and placed on a mount, so no blooms this year.

With the vigor of the seedlings, I hope to see blooms within 2 years [crosses_fingers]

As for fragrance, it will have one, but it takes about 4 days or so for cattleyas to really be done "fluffing out" as it were, then start fragrating.

I know that names don't matter to most of us, but there is a little cautionary tale with this orchid.

Bob Betts x Bow Bells was registered as Jose Marti in 1959.

This same cross was then registered as Mother's Favourite in 1990. This is not supposed to be allowed, but it happened. It was in days before easy electronic checking of registration. A particular cross can only be registered/named once.

Thus, Mother's Favourite is considered a synonym for Jose Marti. Mother's Favourite is not the name of a particular plant that has been carried forward.

Technically, this should just be called Jose Marti (I am leaving out the diacritical marks that should be over the "e" in Jose and the "i" in Marti) and not Jose Marti 'Mother's Favourite'.
