This "thing" was rescued from Lowes 2 years ago. It was dying and a large plant. It did NOTHING. Finally in January of 2013, I cut it in half, put it in a tiny pot, moved it to where it gets very bright light and some sun and one split plant died and the other is doing "famously"!!! I am so happy. No blooms yet but I don't expect miracles. Its in a mixture of small bark, charcoal, and some cork. It gets about 1/2 hour of sun through a sheer curtain a day. I water it 2 X a week because we have no humidity and it dries out, mist 2 X a week also. I feed with miracle grow orchid food when I remember too. Here is a pic. Not sure what time of year they bloom.....anyone know?

Since a Potinara has several species in it, it's impossible to know when it will bloom. Most of mine bloom in the Fall and Winter but a couple are Spring bloomers. Potinaras often have the ability to bloom more than once a year also.

I've often experienced the same phenomenon that you did. I'll divide an orchid and one division grows well and one doesn't do anything or even dies. I don't know why that is.

Well then that makes sense about them having several species in them. It sure is growing like crazy and has beautiful healthy roots so I think it will bloom eventually.

Update on my Potinara. I put it in a much smaller pot and gave it some morning sun and it's thriving! No flowers yet!
