Ha! No, actually the sheath is fairly recent. My sentence there is not clear, is it? ... got it in bloom last year, was happy to recently discover a new sheath

You go girl!!! Normally purpurata bloom easily. But from my experience when their environment is changed right when they are setting their future flowers they will just send up dry sheaths. I'm glad yours is throwing up another sheath. I love the purpuratas.

I love them too! I wasn't sure if where I had it growing over winter was sufficient light ... but, it was the best I could do for it

Yes they love all the bright light they can get short of burning. And good water and then be allowed to dry well. They can take temps down to around 40*f for a couple hours in winter but with hold water when it gets that cold. They are very resilient.
