Default Encyclia radiate

This flower just opened. I can't actually take credit for it, as it was in bud and a travelling companion to the quickie project orchid.

The scent is fabulous!

I have always been fascinated by this one
How big a plant is it?
What kind of fragrance does it remind you of?

The plant is in a 4-inch pot right now and not too big, but I don't know how big it will get. The scent reminds me of a rose with a little spice in it. Very nice actually!

This one is formerly Encyclia radiata, now Prosthechea radiata. Most of this group have non-resupinate lips (upside down).

Nice! Without sounding like a 'know-it-all' this orchid has been re-classified as Habenaria radiate. I always thought that these "Encyclias" looked significantly different than the rest of the family and I guess they are.

I haven't been able to keep up with the number of times this name has changed! I still think of it as one of the "cockleshell Encylcias" and that has stuck in my mind, re-inforced every time I look at the label it has when I bought it as a seedling. Mine is just starting to spike - now I can't wait to smell these flowers.

Thanks for sharing your bloom!
