Need some help with this plant. One of the new growths
leaf is too tight for the flowers to get out. I took a toothpick and gently loosened the buds. It is putting out new growths very fast. Would this be normal or is it a watering issue or needing a bigger pot?
Sometimes buds get caught, I doubt there is any cultural problem causing this. If it is growing rapidly and blooming, you should be fine. Brassocattleyas are very hardy, so I wouldn't worry. If you have to use a toothpick that's fine.
Like Gage says...it happens. Some of my laelias are prone to this problem and I have yet to find a way to solve the dilemma. Just be careful when forcing open the leaves and sheaths to help the flowers to get out. Two toothpicks are better than one and knitting needles are even better. Smooth metal won't dig into soft flesh.
