4 colour forms of Laelia purpurata
The enthusiasts classify Purpurata-varieties for the colour, the coloration of the lip and the pattern on the petals.
The normal 'tipo' is attractive for the coloration, but the shape of the petals does not satisfy the judges.
The shape of the dark 'atro' is much better. Sepals and petals show a faint blush of the same colour upon opening that fades later on.
'Aco' means 'steel blue'. This is aco 'Clito' x aco 'do Crente'. I love the combination of yellow throat and blue lip.
Anelata is a typical example for an unusual coloration of the lip. It means 'shaped like a ring'.
The group brings together the aco, sometimes also called 'rojo violeta', and the dark plum red.

Great looking purpuratas! Is your anelata the tall or short variety of purpurata?

Thanks for looking and your nice comments. The anelata is a tall one, from Bela Vista. I also have one argolao, but it has not flowered yet.

I love the pupuratas. I love how bold they are in growth, flower display, longevity, and scent.
Currently I have Striata, Flamea, roxio, werchauseri
There was an analeta at the Redlands that also had pincelada form in its petals/sepals. I just wanted to grab it and run.

Wonderful, I love purpurata.
I'm yet to find out what colour mine is, it was bought from a batch that had not yet flowered so all I know is that the parents were both quite dark. Not sure if it will bloom under by care though
