Remember there is not just the cost of the orchids, but the cost of materials and tools, your media, your pots, your spikes etc. I know I've spent quite a bit on those.
I don't, frankly, even want to know. It would take too much time to add it up and there are quite a few plants whose price I neglected to record in my data base. I have over 250 plants.

For a collector there is no such thing as too many orchids. I added 41 orchids to my collection in the last 2 weeks and one other that i am going to my friend to pick up tomorrow; and with several thousand and counting every day is a colourful day.
This made me think! I have a decent collection at this point
Tallying it up ive spent.....over 1400$ OY!!! That's not including pots fertilizer media my light system... OMG I'VE SPENT ALOT!!!! It's all worth it though! I have about 30 plants and I just bought one yesterday a bellina from Norman's which set me back about 65$ and I have my eyes on a couple of others that I have justified as must haves lol!!!
I quit keeping track of how much money I spent. Now I keep track of how much money I throw away. .
I do know I have 3 walkeriana's I paid almost 300 for 3 plants. On the other hand I have a few 12.98 bag babies from Lowes that look much better. Its Not what you spend its what you spend it on.
but all in all estimated 200 plants costing over 5-6k bucks in plants, gear, ammo and kleenex for wipin tears of joy off my face when Im done crying
After 10+ years collecting I lost the count! And I do not dare to think about the amount put down on my hobby ...
I also see it meaningless to discuss the amont spent as the plants grow and potentially increase in value, divisions can be sold of for equal amount as the plant was purchased for and soo on.
But I know the most I spent on a single orchid, or acctually 3 small back bulbs with one new growth on itīs way. And that was 80 Euro. And it was worth it as it was a confirmed blomming size division, from a trusted seller.
