Default Lc. Mildred Rives 'Orchidglade' FCC/AOS

I just brought this for an elderly lady who enjoys the lovely blooms but can't care for them herself; she is 92 afterall. She will really love this one, and the scent is fantastic!
This plant was actually a rescue of a bigger plant that had outgrown its 6 inch pot and was growing way over the sides. It had bloomed in a couple years and looked extremely rough around the edges; leaves with poor texture and colout etc. I got this cattleya just about 3 months ago; I cleaned it up divided it into three and repotted them. I sprayed it with fungicide & insecticide and started it on my twice a week fertilizer regimen and placed it in my smaller greenhouse with 70% shade. In about a month buds started to push out from a much older PB and also a newer one. It took the better part of a month to develop the buds and finally after watching them slowly develop here they are! It was originally 4 buds but one blasted at the late stage of the process when the lip start protruding from the closed bud.
Enjoy!

Lovely blooms.
That is the downside of outdoor growing= your leaves can be eaten by small animals. But I would always envy people who grow orchids outdoors.
*Love your Irish linen table cloth with intricate embroidery.

Wow! AOS doesn't give out a lot of FCC awards. I looked it up and that cross has 26 awards. The 'Orchidglade' cultivar received an FCC/AOS with 91 points awarded. That's a pretty special orchid. Good rescue job.

Wow 91 points?! Thanks for sharing that info; great to know a little history on its award potential.
It really is special since I was able to get it blooming and carrying it to an elderly lady who enjoys orchids. She's over 90 years old an can't manage caring for orchids. That's what makes it special to me outside of its sheer elegance.

Well worth all the efforts and a quick reward. Recuperation would have lasted much longer in my climate.
