The owner has agreed to exchange the plant if there is in fact something wrong with it. I will go to the nursery tomorrow. It's a shame since it will grow such nice flowers...

Did you even check the roots?

There's nothing wrong with the roots. I potted the division myself so I should know.

*Edit: Pbulbs with no roots but have viable eyes have a greater chance of growing new leads than pbulbs with healthy roots but no viable eyes, which will not be able to grow any new leads.

lol. I won't even comment much on that statement because that statement is used very loosely. That statement is in fact false in the general manner in which u suggest. But who cares; your getting a replacement although individuals that grow orchids should understand what they grow regardless.

I agree that you should take this back where you got it and request a refund or replacement. If you get another fresh Cattleya division, keep it very dry for a week or two; this helps forestall any latent fungal/bacterial issues and often seems to encourage new roots. Just my ...
Ya, this was my first thought too. The eyes are all dead (even one of the small "extra" ones that are above the main large eyes at the base of the p-bulb) in the pics and the oldest p-bulb looks like it should be cut off as well.

Be sure to post pics of your new plant and look for viable eyes on the next one!! Strange that this vendor sold you a plant like this. Be careful when dealing with them after you get your replacement plant.

The other plant should be fine as there is a developing eye. The vendor had divided the original plant and sold me one of the divisions.

I just want to point out the uncircled dead eye in this pic. If you follow the bulb up above the right red circle, you will see a small, wedge shaped brown spot above the joint in the p-bulb which looks like a circle linking the top of the bulb with the bottom section. That little brown wedge is your "back up" eyes in case the main ones die off for some reason. When the "back up" are dead, you know your plant is in trouble!!

Edit- Whoops, the pic didn't show up. I was trying to reference the picture on the first page that was attached to the second to last post.

I see the eye you're referring to. I believe that I identified this eye in the picture I posted below that. It's the circled eye on the right. It's the same pbulb though from a different angle.

No, its actually not circled in any of the pics and is actually quite small, while the ones that were circled are the main eyes and are pretty big. The one I'm pointing out is quite a bit above the media.
