Signs for cold tolerance? Male
Default Signs for cold tolerance?

I need some pointers to help me figure out which catts are more cold tolerant than others.
I want to get quite a number to go around my pond. Outside in southern California year round.
I know lots of cats wouldn't mind that but I also know that some wouldn't appreciate or winter weather.
I'm planning on buying all the plants locally...
So what can I look out for? Names and types to watch for? What about the flowers? And differences there depending on the species in the background?
And leaf and pseudobulb shape?

I like to check out SBOE for listings - they often indicate temperature tolerant, or grows with Cyms. I know they don't have everything, but they have a lot, and it's someplace to start. I've also used the RHS registry to look up parents, and then check out the parents cold tolerance.

Botanica's Orchid's (book) Botanica's Orchids: Over 1200 Species (Botanica's Gardening Series) (Botanica's Gardening Series): Botanica: Amazon.com: Books includes grow zones for many species.
(ebay listings botanica s orchids | eBay )

Sonya is right. SBOE has a lot of species that wil do well in California and that seems to be their specialty. As for morphological characteristics that you can look for to determine cold tolerance.....there are none. lol Sorry, but you will have to do research and find out which species do well with cooler conditions. SBOE is a good start.

Sigh... well it was worth a shot lol...
I'm planning a trip to SBOE this summer so maybe I should just hold off...
They would be able to fill my wishlist alot better than I could.

Cold tolerant and blooms multiple times a year.
I love my cyms around the pond but it's gonna be a once a year showing.
