Default Laelia esalqueana

Laelia esalqueana is a small rupicolous Laelia with short floral stalk compared to several other rupicolous. It inhabits the region of Diamantina in the State of Minas Gerais, Brazil. Its bright yellow flowers are quite a sight! I divided and repotted my plant last year, so it is not flowering as well as it can.

That has nice full segments for such a small flower....It is not as prolific as L. flava or L. briegeri.

Very nice. Looks like a daffodil.

Yep, agree. On the other hand, its lip folds back less than in flava and briegeri and this might be of interest in hybridizing. Also, the plant is way smaller than those and this could produce interesting compact hybrids don't you think?

Compact hybrids? How about micro-mini hybrids!

Something like x s.cernua would be interesting and would be easy to grow.

Regarding the lip folding back (under), this does show up in the hybrids fairly commonly. Also, S. coccinea hybrids tend to have lips that fold back in the same manner.

This is a challenging idea... I think I have Sophro alagoensis in flower still ... if its pollen is still OK I'm gonna try this cross!
