Pot. Hawaiian Prominence 'America'
There are so many new mini-cattleyas available now. This one is a dark, dark red with orange throat. The flowers are 4.25" across. It has a very unusual spicy fragrance but it's a pleasant aroma. The vendor said it could bloom more than once a year but for me it has only bloomed once each year.

Very nice! Even tho its only once a year, you sure have lots of blooms to make up for it!

Terrific blooms, certainly there are a lot of new mini's around now.
Wait until the plant gets larger and you might find as a bigger plant it does bloom more often or have more blooms simulataneously. That's the trade off, you could either get it blooming on many spikes all at once or it might bloom on one or two spikes at different times of the year. It depends on different factors - some of which are lost on me.

Wow~ that is stunning!!!
I love that hint of white in the center against the dark red. it almost appear to look like it's glowing while the lip is on fire!
I'm looking for cattleya of this color now that I have so many pink/rose purple flowers, I'm getting slightly tired of it and want something of more intense color.

I got this from Carmela's a couple of years ago. They still have them available on their web-site.

Wait, I thought Carmela's went out of business.
I should double check.
I saw two cattleyas at a local farmer's market but didn't get it. I need to make some room. also I have hard time reblooming cattleyas (blc and pot mainly) so I am rather hesitant.

I just love it! What a rich colour!
It's a shame that so far it has only bloomed once a year. I have been trying to get the hang of catts, but I like something that blooms often. I have killed a few slc, Lc and cltna, and one catt over the years. I have a healthy Lc, a ctna and an epicatt. I'll get it yet.

Tucker, do you grow lots of catts?
I have been able to rebloom mini catts and one LC.
I wonder if LCs are supposed to be easier or just more reliable bloomer?
Would you have an opinion on that?
I finally dumped out my pot. Susan Fender Cinnamon Stick after not seeing even a sheath over one year.
I got yet another standard sieze BLC last fall. It is maturing a new lead and I see no sheath. a nightmare is coming back to haunt me. lol
I love this one so I'm not sure if I want to dump it out soon but I really don't want to keep something that I cannot rebloom. I'd rather grow veggies that I can take advantage of in that space. hahaha
