Bark=Rot in Catts?

I'm in Florida and I grow all my catts in lava rock in clay pots. During the summer they get rain every day and do very well in that mix.

It depends on your climate though. In a climate where the plant can dry out quickly, getting rain everyday is actually a good thing (like summer in the tropics) but in a different climate it could be a problem.

I think to some extent we all need to find our own balance. Advice is always helpful but we all have unique situations to deal with.

I have catts in CHC mix, in regular bark and in s/h. The one in s/h was really a mess when I repotted, but it's now growing new roots and sending up new leads. All my plants are growing well, but my gut feeling is they will do better in s/h. Don't have anything to back that up yet. JMO

I have all of my catts in semi dydro using prime agra they love it so .... I do to.

I agree with the Chadwicks when they say Catts can be grown in ANY loose medium that does not decompose quickly. Certainly over the years more Cattts have been grown in fir bark than anything else. Having said that, I never use bark any more. Mixes like Leca simply work better for me and require way less repotting. As far as net pots I swear by them, but that is simply because they fit into my watering regeim well. Others grow award winners in standard plastic nursery pots.
