Default Culture for Epidendrum piliferum?

I have one of these being delivered today and haven't been able to find any information on the best way to grow them

Do they do better potted or mounted?

Well, after not hearing from anybody and not finding any info on line, I'm thinking this is not a very common plant...which makes me like it even more

I repotted it into aliflor as all my other Encyclia are except for the mounts. Wish me luck

I've not even heard of this one! I only have one Epi (ellipticum) so won't hazard a guess. I'm sure you'll keep us up to date on how it does?

IOSPE PHOTOS

IOSPE PHOTOS

I just found this...IOSPE has two entries on the internet and the first one just shows a picture. This one says terrestrial so I may have to re-think what I have it in

I have lots that I just bought last month... Looks like a little reed stem type to me. I mounted a few, and put a few in plastic pots with seedling mix. So far after a month they all look pretty good.

Now on orchidspecies.com they describe this as a giant... Mine are wee little things... I wonder if they are labeled correctly.

Hi Rob

The one I received is about a foot tall...I'm not sure what to expect on this because there is such a lack of information available...anywhere!

Jay's description says it can be epiphytic or terrestrial. I think you're OK.

Thanks Terri
I'm going to keep an eye on it and if I see anything I don't like, I'll switch it over.

Sue, like I said earlier, I've never heard of this guy, but as a suggestion - why not treat it like most epi's and provide high light (ellipticum takes full sun) and plant in fine bark mix, like for Paphs? Don't think that would hurt it at all and just might be what it needs?
