Brassavola needs strong light (brighter than cattleyas). I saw them growing outside in the full sun in Hawaii. Flowering was just unbelievable!!!
These plants ( the same applies to the hybrids also) originate tropical Americas, so they like warmth and lots of moisture, but with their thick fleshy leaves, they are also quite drought tolerant.
Note that I said tolerant, so underwatering is not going to kill them immediately, but not recommended at all for good culture.
Keep them on the dry side if winter gets too cool. Otherwise, water them good in strongest possible light and they will grow and flower like crazy!
