In their book ' Monography of the Venezuelan Cattleyas and its varieties ' Aulisi and Foldats mention on page 143 the described variety (now called forma) grandiflora. They say: Some of the varieties are usually known as "grandifloras" (they are established varieties according to classical taxonomic patterns) which are probably polyploid.

Looks like you lucky guy picked one of these grandifloras.

Thanks for this interesting information. 'Grandiflora' certainly fits the bill. I selfed her last week, so we'll see what happens.
