Blc. Tchaikovski 'Mazeppa'
Back in the Seventies some good hybrids were made in France by Maurice Vacherot & Marcel Lecoufle like this Brassolaeliocattleya (or today Rhynchosophrocattleya) Tchaikovski 'Mazeppa'. Pod parent is Cattleya Trempeleau, the pollen came from the famous Blc. Memoria Crispin Rosales. Mazeppa is one of Tchaikovski's operas. Huge flowers, blooming in september.

What a great cattleya! And as a cellist, the name is especially appealing!

Excellent cattleya! The veins in the throat are really nice. Is it fragrant?

Huge flowers and a lovely scent, but not often in cultivation. When I saw it, I had to bring a division into my greenhouse.
