The Classic Catts
My husband got me the book "The Classic Cattleyas" by the Arthur Chadwick father and son team. Well, I fell in love with some of these old, big flowered classics. But - where do I find them?? I've googled and googled, but they don't seem to be around. I'm particularly interested in Cattleya labiata. Can anyone direct me to a "secret source" for these beauties??

I just did a quick Google but didn't have a problem finding some. Santa Barbara Orchid Estates showed some as well as Miranda Orchids. In Canada both Paramount and Clouds have them. I think they both ship with little hassle to the U.S. I didn't search further but just type in Cattleya labiata and you will find some in Google!

No problem I would look further to get the best price. I don't order from the U.S. because of the paperwork and import fees we have to pay. But I have heard others speak of Norman's orchids and I know there are others. Hopefully others will chime in. Look under 'species' as some may list them that way.

You might check Hausermann's, under 'species', or Oakhill. I just bought C. mossiae and C. schroderae from Hausermann's.

Call Cal Orchid ( Cal Orchid: The Living Bouquet) in Santa Barbara. They have numerous line-bred varieties of C. labiata that are reasonably priced. You could also contact the Chadwicks themselves: Welcome | Chadwick and Son Orchids. Norman's Orchids, by the way, is one of the very last places, in my opinion, that you should buy from (for numerous reasons, not the least of which is that their products are often mislabeled, so what you receive may not be what you buy). Good luck with your search.

Google Custom Search - Orchid Nurseries
That searches over 350 dealers in the US. It helps out a ton!
