It takes a while for people to build them but once they do it they are pretty awesome.

Every year Santa Barbara Orchid Estates has a sale and open house. They have a very large selection of orchids (especially species) of orchids for $7.50/2-3 inch pot. Discounts on more than 10 I think and easy shipping. All their orchids are in superb condition and within a year or two of blooming. If you like to raise them like I do it is worth the wait. I have purchased everything from C.Aclandiae to zygopetalums. And all have been superb plants. I seldom buy from dealers instead rescuing from death those cast off by others. But I buy every year from SBOE at their sale. The other place I buy from and get superb plants is Cal Orchids in Santa Barbara, Ca. They are across the street from SBOE.

I'm not a hybrid guy, but for classic hybrids I think the best site is still the Chadwick's own. They are a bit pricey IMO, but you've already seen their dedication to the classics and know what you will be getting! Welcome | Chadwick and Son Orchids

Steve, thanks! They really are quite pricey. I live a few miles from Hausermann's, so I may take a little hike over there to see what they've got. They are HUGE and I believe they have much more than what's on their website!

Absolutely! The best part about being able to physically go to a greenhouse is the ability to peruse all the "secret" stuff not on the website.

Hausermann's has a variety. Just bought mossiae and schroderae from them around Thanksgiving. They have some others but I don't have the space. Take a look at the C. Snow Blind 'Kenny'. It is mostly loddigesil with some walkeriana and quite a charmer.

Here's a really old classic. C. General Patton (C. Barbara Billingsley x C. Bow Bells) Big lovely white with an overpowering fragrance. I've a couple others from the 50's I'll post when they bloom again. The second pic is C Karen Gubler an oldy from Gublers Orchids in Lucern Valley, Ca.

James, they are BEAUTIFUL! Are the plants themselves from the 50's?? Did you inherit them? Wow, talk about heirlooms - very cool!
