Default Broken leaf, new plant?

ok I was moving my orchids around when I was watering them 3 weeks ago and I snapped off two leaves right where another new leaf was comming out. So the whole top of the plant is off. I placed the "new" plant section botom in water. I grow s/h so I have a tray under to catch the water. My question is this, Will the leaf grow roots? It has not seemed to wither or soften at all, I know you can do this with other plants but I could not find any info on orchids?

I don't think that orchids have the ability to regenerate a whole new plant from a leaf. So no, the broken leaf won't grow roots.

wishfull thinking, I remember my mothers houseplants that she would grow from just a few leaves by suspending them in water.
