No, they never carry cattleyas at TJ here.

I'm sorry you tossed your plant because it did not display the normal look of a color break virus. The white streak on the petals is just that, a white streak in its normal coloration.
The best description of color break I can come up with is the bloom has blotchy spots on it not the streak in your picture.
I have the 'Southern Cross' clone and it is a small plant with a huge bloom. I can't say it is the fastest grower in the world but it makes a new growth every year and blooms.

I know. The white color break was just one clear white streak running through the entire petal and didn't look like some others I've seen in the pictures. I wondered about that, but wasn't completely sure. hence, gone.
It was rahter smallish for a cattleya and the Southern Cross is much smaller but about the same in flower size as Serendipity.

hmmmm that sounds interesting.
Maybe I should try high N fertilizer on some my "bad" cattleyas. I always use low N or balanced fertilizers.
Funny thing is I grow all of them the same way, but only one large catt and two mini grow and flower on time.
Others grow smaller new leads and no sheaths. they always get tossed. lol
I do have one BLC that I really liked the flowers of, and this plant also grew a smaller new leaf with no sheath. was very tempting but I decided to keep it for a little longer.
Now my Goldenzelle "Lemon Shiffon" is about half way mature with its newest lead. I don't see a regular sized sheath coming out of it but I did see a tiny stuff stuck deep inside when used flashlight last night. hope to see flowers on that lead.
On a happier note, my "well behaved" catt and one of the minis are also half way matured with the new leaves and they all have sheath emerging. yay!!!
They are the keepers for me for sure.
