I just got this one a few days ago, it came with the blooms open like this and I thought they would open up more but so far they haven't. Still pretty though.

I'm not a photographer and the lighting in my place is not ideal but I tried my best to capture these beauties.

still nice photos of a superb plant.
I love blue/violet colors on flowers, and this one is on my wish list.

Did you mail order it or bought at a local florist? just curious because I don't see cattleyas that often in stores in Manhattan.

I got it on ebay from waldororchids, this vendor was excellent, he was really responsive to all my questions and sent me this plant in bloom unexpectedly. The listing is still active and he has 8 left I think, here is a link LC Blue Boy 'Gainsborough' HCC AOS 5" Pot Coerulea Cattleya Orchid Plant | eBay

Both plants I got from him are big and really, really healthy

I have bought from them before. My dendrobium Oriental Smile "Fantasy" came from them at one of the shows. It is a nice plant.

I would love to go to some meetings or shows here, I'm really new to this whole thing, what would you recommend for me?

It is one of my favorite plants ever! I wish it was a year round bloomer. hahaha

I got it at a shore orchid festival in Naptune, NJ.
This is a relatively new show that started only a couple of years ago. It is held on the first weekend of June.
I couldn't make it this year because I had to visit Texas that same weekend. bummer!
I was told it had some international vendor from Taiwan and Japan. I was so sad I couldn't attend. well, well...

They usually have lots of cattleyas in bloom and lots of paphs by one vendor I don't recall the name of. then there are everything else in bewtween.

NY Botanical Garden has annual orchid show starting late March for about a month or two.
During this time, the shop sells lots of beautiful flowering orchids of many kind from vendors nearby.
The issue is the price. They charge SOOOOO much for anything they sell. Even the tiniest little thing is $42. Most of them are usually 60-70. Yeah, but I spent several hundred dollars. crazy me. I don't see that happening again though. lol

As far as orchid society meeting goes, I always thought about attedning, but never actually joined them. I did visit for a wonderful lecture in November for the first time. I think I will go again this month.
It's the second wednesday night of every month. Look up Manhattan Orchid society and find out info about the new location if you'd like to attend.
