Thanks for the quick reply, I water it every 7-10 days as needed. I'll keep that in mind for the roots next time I'm inspecting. It gets plenty of light and warmth throughout the day.

James mentioned this also, but with a new growth and no media, you will want to water this guy more than every 7-10 days. I agree with James' suggestion of a daily watering for this plant as long as it has no media.

It is in bark. I'm wondering how it came to be that people think it is not in media.

Whoops, my bad. I looked at the pics quickly and focused on the plant. I didn't see the media in the pot!

You have done a great job; I honestly think you have taken what advice you have gotten already and turned it around totally. Just maintain that great care and you will eventually see blooms! The bark mix is perfect, and if its cold at this time of year for you with a bark mix just do your watering 2 or so times a week. Cattleyas are used to drying out completely between rainfalls in the rainforests. But when it rains it pours in those parts...so as long as you drench it with a lot of wate when watering; and fertilize when in active growth, you really won't even need our help here....

Of course picture of blooms! Thanks to all the great advice I'm hoping I should see a bloom in a few months. I will definitely keep you guys posted.

I agree with Steve. While it may look dehydrated, it may be because there are few ( or no roots) If this is the case, rotten roots must be removed, ( mushy/soft brown ) and the whole orchid must be re-potted. I usually strip the outer rotten brown exterior off, and leave intact the hard inner core. I re-pot into damp medium, and put the whole thing into my greenhouse. No sun; just low light for a while.
