Cattleya nobilior var. amaliae 'Dona Laura'
This is one of my best Cattleya nobilior. The form is good, the color too. The flowers have an intoxicating anise perfume that makes me keep my nose glued to them. This is a variety of clear lavender color, very prized and grown here. Good clones are not cheap and most of them end in Japan (they can afford to pay, in fact, money seems not to be a problem for them!!). BTW, Dona Laura is my grandma, a lovely 92-year-old lady.

Hi Mauro,
Great amalie! Good growing, congrats!
Did you went to AOSP show in sept 14-16? The first prize was a huge C. nobilior 'type', the bigger nobilior I saw in my life! My favourite was the 3rd place, the famous clone 'Dom Rafael Wenzel'. Nobilior rules!

That is lovely! What a wonderful plant to be named for your grandmother
By the way, when my husband kicks me and my ever-growing orchid collection out, I'm heading for Brazil!

I guess she is,Kim. After all, she has two fantastic flowers named after her (the other is an out-of-series Cat. loddigesii)

Yes, I did, Frederico. I saw the plant you say... Agree, it was a good one, but nothing more than that, in my opinion. Although awarded and bearing large flowers, honestly, I've seen some nobilior type way better than that... But, if I was given a piece of that plant I'd grab it right away, of course . I'm with you, Dom Rafael Wenzel, on the other side, is a lovely flower.
