Default Laelia tenebrosa var. vinicolor 'Rain Forest'

Sometimes it is called Cattleya tenebrosa. Bought in the spring with sheaths but took another six months to flower! First timer with this orchid. I will see how cold it can take in the winter. When I got it the night temps were still in the 50s and it weathered that ok!

Enjoy
Andrew

Beautiful! I just got one last month - at a local OS sale - members' sale table. Labeled as grown outdoors here in the south SF Bay Area, so my plan is to grow it outdoors, just bringing it into the garage on the coldest nights. IOSPE has these as cool to hot growing.

A lot of material on the Internet say that it should grow warmer than other Cattleya. But Santa Barbara orchid estate says they grow it outside year round. I had it in the spring outside. Nights dropped to 50 and it seemed ok. I think the recent hot weather prompted it to flower. Two more unopened sheaths. I hope they bloom too.

Bud thanks for the compliments. I know one thing for sure, it is a lot less demanding than your beautiful V sanderiana!
