Default Encyclia cochleata woes.

Greetings - supposedly an easy orchid, right? I bought one a few months ago and had at least two months' worth of blooms, so cannot complain here. Since then, I have been watering regularly and keeping it in moderate sunlight (under a 70% shade screen - I live in Brazil..) yet the pseudobulbs are shrivelling and the leaves seem "weak" not quite willing to stand up under their own strength. It's not dying as such, just flimsy.
Do I need to water more to fill the pseudobulbs, or give it more direct sunlight - or both? It's in a ceramic pot, fine for it's size, in what seems to be a mix of sphagnum, some bark and a few gravel stones.
Any suggestions welcome.
Thanks
Doug

Have a look at the plant's roots. What condition are they in?

I would also say it is probably the roots rotting. Take a look.

I agree with the others, sounds like a root problem.

OK will do.
Whilst I am there, what is the most indicated potting mix for this plant?
Thanks

Yup, roots were soaking wet in a mush of potting medium. I cleaned it up, cut off the rot, and now have repotted in a mix of sphagnum, pine chips, charcoal and some leca - a mish-mash mix which hopefully should work. Will let it settle for a week or two and see.

I have it, I use lava rocks, charcoal and some coconut husk, but I don't like the ceramic pot, I use the clay pots, don't use the ceramic pots because the paint inside is not good.

Sorry - I meant clay pot - not "fancy" ceramic pot. Thanks for the info.

Mine flourishes in a mix of medium bark and charcoal, but its one of the few plants that I grow in a plastic pot (I cut extra air-holes into the sides). It has 15 spikes and has been blooming all summer... and its growing like a weed!

Well, still not looking that good - better, but not much.I'll give it another week maybe and then report in chips and charcoal as suggested, so making the mix drier than with the sphagum. I know it's MEANT to be easy!!
