Default Sophronitis alagoensis V.P.Castro & Chiron

This is a newly described species (2003) recently found in the State of Alagoas, Brazil. It has many similarities with Sophronitis cernua, but the plant is smaller and so are its flowers. The color also seems to be redder than in cernua. To have an idea of this plant's size it is in a 1-inch wide pot.

I acquired mine last year from a sow made by a local nursery, Ross. To my knowledge they were the only nursery selling it here. Sorry, but I really can't say whether it is available in the States, or not. But, you can give a try with Florália, a Brazilian nursery that regularly attends shows in the USA, and maybe they can get one plant for you. Here's their site: Brazilian Orchids from Florália
Good luck!

That little gem certainly packs a big whallop! Nice growing Mauro, as usual.

Mauro, that's fantastic!

I'm starting my wish-list for the World Orchid Conference in January and this will be the first one on it!

Thanks for sharing
