Cattleya dowiana enters the house!
Despite the fried plants, this C. dowiana determined to flower. The sheath was badly burned by the high dose UV's - brown on one side, green on the other, but I could feel the buds developing inside. It soon became black and leathery, so I cut off the top to be sure the buds didn't get trapped inside.
Great coloring in the buds has developed in the last couple of days.

Upon closer inspection, I see that it is C. dowiana var. aurea.
Having never flowered C. dowiana before, I am seeking input from those of you who have. For a flower with yellowish petals and sepals, these buds seem to have quite a bit of color? Whats up with that?
Oh and here is what they are doing now. I know, can't wait!

Oscarman.
Under strong light (which you seem to have this summer) even the aurea form has some reddish pigmentation on the backs & edges of the petals & sepals. That's what you're seeing. Of course the lips are mostly red.
