Cattleya dowiana enters the house!
Despite the fried plants, this C. dowiana determined to flower. The sheath was badly burned by the high dose UV's - brown on one side, green on the other, but I could feel the buds developing inside. It soon became black and leathery, so I cut off the top to be sure the buds didn't get trapped inside.
Great coloring in the buds has developed in the last couple of days.

Upon closer inspection, I see that it is C. dowiana var. aurea.
Having never flowered C. dowiana before, I am seeking input from those of you who have. For a flower with yellowish petals and sepals, these buds seem to have quite a bit of color? Whats up with that?
Oh and here is what they are doing now. I know, can't wait!

Well the buds are swelling and starting to pop open along the seams now James, so looks like we will both get what we want soon!
Thanks for the info catwalker808, I was hoping you would add a comment. Do you grow many C. dowiana?
I grow in a dedicated grow room in the basement with HID lighting, not quite sun but really good bright sun-like light.
Was just working around this plant and noticed that the slightly opened buds are already producing fragrance. Have not noticed that before with other catts.

O.K. Now you're making me jealous with the fragrance thing. I try very hard to only grow fragrant orchids! BettyE
