Default Laelia/Cattleya alaorii

My Laelia alaorii also known as Cattleya alaorii has just bloomed. I got this plant at the Santa Barbara Orchid Estate last year at their annual fair. My mom bought it for me when we visited their greenhouses. I got it in bud last year and it is flowering again. This year it seems to be a bit darker in color. This is one of the six species belonging to the section Hadrolaelia which are native to Brazil. Thanks for looking!

Thanks Sonya! I grow it in a clay pot with sphagnum moss. I have a few packing peanuts in the bottom of the pot for drainage. I grow it under lights during the winter and outside during summer. It gets intermediate temps. When I got the plant it was potted in rocks. I just repotted it about two months ago in moss. It didn't even skip a beat going from straight large gravel to the moss. SBOE grows a lot of their plants in rocks. It's really easy and cute! I suggested the Hadrolaelia group for this next project. Are you doing the project? I really want this group to win! All six species are great!

This looks great! I really like this species and will be getting one soon. Do you give yours a dry season?
