Thanks Sonya! I grow it in a clay pot with sphagnum moss. I have a few packing peanuts in the bottom of the pot for drainage. I grow it under lights during the winter and outside during summer. It gets intermediate temps. When I got the plant it was potted in rocks. I just repotted it about two months ago in moss. It didn't even skip a beat going from straight large gravel to the moss. SBOE grows a lot of their plants in rocks. It's really easy and cute! I suggested the Hadrolaelia group for this next project. Are you doing the project? I really want this group to win! All six species are great!
cool - thanks for the info!
I wasn't planning on participating in the project, but maybe I will check it out!
Ron- I will try and come to the meeting. Hopefully the flower will last that long. I can't remember how long the flowers last.
BettyE- I checked for fragrance at 11:30 this morning and I could smell it a little bit. It's a sweet smell. I looked on ISOPE to see if it is listed as fragrant and it isn't. But I could smell a little something.
Wynn, yes most of what I get from SBOE is grown in granite rock. What size pot did you get this in? Was it difficult to get it off the rocks? When you pot in spag, what density do you pack the moss? I am trying moss but haven't anything that's been potted that long. I worry about the winter keeping it too wet. I love the very subtle color here. Nice plant. Is that in a 4 inch pot? Looks very nice. Congrats.

Thanks James! I got it in a green square pot that was about 2.5 inches or so and then that pot was in another green square 3 inch pot. It was not hard to get off the rocks. They really were not clinging to them. The hardest part was that it had a long root that grew out one of the bottom holes and was growing inbetween the two pots. I put a few packing peanuts in the bottom of the pot for drainage and an air space at the bottom. The roots grow down in the air space and into the peanuts. I try and pack it as loosely as I can and then stake it or use a rhizome clip to stabilize the plant. The new moss dries out quite fast. I grow inside my spare bedroom under lights in the winter so the moss really works great for me. It helps keep the humidity up in the room. I was really surprised how well the roots have done since they went from large rocks to moss. I repotted it when new roots were growing. Yeah it is in a 4 inch pot. I really am hoping it will start growing in multiple directions cause it is growing in a straight line right now.
Thanks. Love the subtle color of yours. It would be a nice flower for a high key black and white image. When I get my orchids at SBOE I always get the little $7.50 starters that are in 1.5" pots. They are usually in 1" pots inside 1.5" pots with rocks and the roots usually go into a hole or two and wrap around the outer pot. Hard to cut the pot off. Sometimes the roots stick to the rocks and sometimes not. This is where LC Issy came from a few years back. I go most years to their show/sale.
