Eeeeeeehawwwwwwww!!! Way to go. I just love it when the flower buds get this big. I have a couple that are getting fairly large. I also had one (big purple BLC with a yellow lip that was all set to go and then yesterday I went out and looked at one rotted flower bud crammed into the sheath with another bud that wasn't yet rotted. Arrrrgggggg!!!! I wait so long for them to flower and then this. I don't know what causes this condition. It's happened a few times especially on my C. Mari's Song. So lately I havce been cutting off the sheath. It seems to be a moisture issue but I never water overhead. Always soak them. Let them dry out completely. Arrrrgggg!!!!. I am so glad your's are coming along so nicely. Can't wait to see what they loook like. Not all pbulbs mature at the same time or bloom the same just like people and dogs. If you have perfect conditions they would be close. But I go to SBOE and look at their's. Even the big multi-pbulb plants have two-three, and even one flower on them. But as they mature, they usually get the normal number of flowers per inflorescence. unLESS THEY ROT!!!! ARRRGGG!!!. Ok. Enough. Please post when they open. Good luck.

Congratulations! A great reward for your efforts. I grow on windowsills with a fan and supplemental light. My laelias and Lc. have rebloomed. Haven't been able to get the Slc. to rebloom or the Potinara "bloom size" seedlings to bloom. Looking forward to your photo update!

I removed my orchids from my little greenhouse during a heat wave yesterday and somehow missed my little BLC! I can't believe I did that to my newest orchid! It's leaves are purple and it is just a baby.

This particular catt does not make a large sheath, so bud rot is not an issue. For other catts that make large or standard sheath, I've read people recommend cutting the sheath open to prevent the bud rot. They say it's the moisture and heat that cause the buds rot inside the sheath. |

I have four LCs including this mini catt, and two BLC ( one is actually POT but it's before the reclassification). These are all fairly new to me and most are growing new leads for the first time so I need some time to see. So far though, one LC is about to rebloom (this mini catt), and one other LC grew nice and large pb with large sheath that has been empty for months. well, at least it made a sheath. lol One BLC has been growing very well, but all the pb that grew under my care are smaller and no sheath no nothing. Quite frustrating. I was about to dumpt out last month but decided to give it one more season. It's got some growth buds swelling up. Judging by the size of the buds though, they are going to be small again. oh, well...I guess I have to stick to LCs then. Oh, for the record, mine are all flowering size. The problematic BLC is the biggest with more than 10 pbs. definitely a problem lol |
Finally Open!!!
These are pictures from yesterday and today two buds are almost fully open and even fragrance is there, althugh not yet at its full strength.
This little orchid is super! grows fast, rebloomed in a short time, buds develop fast, and color so cute! Yay!!! I was all excited about the one tiny bud that was growing on the other new lead, but it looks to me that it is turning red and yellow...drying up...oh, well... I got these three other blooms though. :) |
Unlike my other large flowered catts, which took a couple of days to completely open, this one took only one day to open up completely!
The strong fragrance kicked in as soon as the flowers opened up. mmmm~~ so nice!!! |
that is really pretty. nice color. wine anyone?
