When things go wrong.
I thought I was on a winner here, Rlc. Burdekin Storm 'Midnight', 3 sheaths set. Only 2 put up what looked like multiple buds in the sheath. It turns out that there was only one bud in each sheath & they look like this...

How long have they looked like that? Sometimes it takes a few days for them to fully open. If that's not the case I'd check the roots to see if they're viable for moisture uptake... and I notice some blotching on the back of one of your leaves. What is that? Your plant doesn't really look dehydrated. I water my plants a little more when they're in bud and bloom.

Roots are fine and I never let them dry out for very long if at all. The bud i so miss formed the lip is totally exposed & facing backwards. Blotches aren't a problem, no fungal prob or disease evident since I've had it. Must admit the roots weren't great when I first got the plant 6 months ago. I've checked them recently and now fine. Most likely the cause. Have to wait & see next flowering.

How hot is it in your greenhouse? I've seen heat damage do this to otherwise healthy plants. It has to be really hot though.

Too bad about that one, Roy. But I think you're right to wait until the next blooming before you decide what to do with it.

At this time of year here, heat isn't a problem at all. The house isn't kept at a high temp either, can't afford it.

I hope that the plant will settle in Steve, the nursery I bought it from wouldn't sell me a dud, he's too close for me not to get at him !!!

All plants get the same treatment, either just water or fertilising. I have/had a number of catts flower or currently in bud with no problems such as this. I believe, till next flowering, just a matter of change in growing environment/location.
