Default Second Cattleya violacea :)

The parents of this one are (rubra flamea 'Alcebiades' x tipo 'Golias'), however it is neither rubra nor flamea...

the shape is very nice, but the flowers are very small... the smallest C. violacea that I have ever seen!

another interesting thing on this plant is that it has no fragrance at all! Also the first C. violacea without fragrance I see!

the color on the first picture is a little bit weird due to the flash of my mobile phone... It is actually closer to the color on picture 2, but a bit darker... Picture 2 was taken the same day it opened and neither shape nor color had settled down yet.. In the second picture it is compared to C. violacea tipo 'Robusta' which I had shown before...

Nice one Ramón. I have never grown or flowered this species. It is lovely.

The shape and color are good Ramon. Is the plant young? Maybe the flowers will get bigger next time. Also, how flat is the flower?

Steve, the plant is very young... The flower is also very flat... I mean, for AOS standards it is a good flower, but I like better the Robusta plant. Not a fan of selected violaceas that tend to look like a walkeriana on steroids... ;-)

They're both beautiful, Ramon, but I agree with you in that I too like the robusta variety better (and I also agree completely with your comment regarding some of the linebred violaceas that tend to resemble walkerianas--not that that's an especially bad thing, but the I think the "garden variety" violaceas are attractive in their own right). The colors on both of these are quite nice. One of my violaceas is producing a new growth. I'm going to place it in front of the computer while your plants' photos are in view and give it an encouraging speech about how it should be kind to me by producing a similarly attractive bloom within the next couple of months. :-)

Steve
