Default Cattleya walkeriana

This is Cattleya walkeriana 'Kenny' FCC/AOS

Can't take too much credit for this flowering as it had buds formed already when I bought it.

It was newly mounted, so now my job is to get it established, seems to have few roots.

Beautiful! I have this one too. Mine bloomed in February. They smell great and my blooms lasted a long time!

The blooms are very pretty, but the previous owner mounted a blooming plant that has few roots--and it's a bifoliate cattleya? I think you're going to have your work cut out for you. If you want to give the plant the best shot at staying alive and re-establishing itself, you might want to consider removing the flower spike sooner rather than later. Good luck with your new acquisition.

Tucker, here is my walkeriana's although a different var. What can you tell me about them? Fragrant? All white? These are rescues from a large specimen that was dumped for ?. They are very root crazy. I have yet to get a bloom because these are only a year from dividing and repotting. I heard the flowers come from the side. But I see the old flower stalks on top the pbulb. Cornfuzed. What can you tell me about them? Thanks.

James- your plant is a hybrid. It is half walkeriana var alba and half Laelia superbiens var alba. Your tag has the spelling of superbiens wrong. That is what your tag says anyway and I can tell by the size of your plants pbulbs and leaves that it isn't a pure walkeriana. C. walkeriana plants are smaller than your plant. C. walkeriana is fragrant and the Laelia parent is suppose to be fragrant too. I just looked online and I guess L. superbiens spikes grow from the top of the pbulb. The plant should be white since both parents are var alba. C. walkeriana does grow its spike from the rhizome but they can grow from the top of the pbulb too. My walkeriana var alba 'Pendentive' usually blooms from the top of the bulb. Since yours is a hybrid it probably will spike from the top of the pbulb. I have never heard of 'Pendentive John' before and I couldn't find it when I Googled it. Laelia superbiens also comes up as Schomburgkia superbiens. Here is a photo of L. superbiens var alba. IOSPE PHOTOS Here is a picture of C. walkeriana var alba 'Pendentive'. Cattleya walkeriana var. alba 'Pendentive', AM/AOS at Santa Barbara Orchid Estate When your plant blooms please show us a pic. I'm curious to see what this cross will look like.

Thanks Wynn Dee. It hasn't spiked yet and I hope it does this year. I have 6 of the divisions that I was able to grow. Some of the older bbulbs didn't make it no matter what I tried. As soon as it spikes I'll post a pic. Thanks.
