Smile Sl. Pink Opal

This is a first bloom seedling I got from Sunset Valley Orchids. It is Sl. Minipet 'Ruby Jewel' x S. wittigiana 'Pink Opal'.
It is a cross made by Peter Lin of Diamond Orchids. It is a beautiful hot pink color. It was hard to capture the real color. It's a lot brighter in person.

Strangely enough, this is now Cattleya Pink Opal. The first parent is more likely C. Minipet 'Ruby Jewel'. All the Sophronitis and the Laelia pumila in the background have been reclassified as Cattleyas. Taxonomists.....

Thanks but I know about the name changes. I prefer to call it by what the tag says for the sake of simplicity. Who knows, they might change it again. Like you said, Taxonomists...
Oh and I don't know why the Minipet didn't get in there. I thought I typed that in...

Thanks! I wish I could of captured the true color! It's a pink I haven't seen in a mini catt before. I'm surprised the flower came out as good as it did because it started opening while it was still parshily in the leaf. The petals were squished for about two days. It damaged them a little.

I love this one too. He has done some great work! I wish more people would use S. wittigiana in crosses. I have another seedling of this cross that hasn't flowered yet, so I'm excited to see what that one will look like! I'm so glad I bought a couple of these. I wish I would of bought a few more! Thank you!
